EDINBURG, Texas — Cris Moncayo, senior vice president and human resources director at Vantage Bank, emphasized the value of collaboration, student talent, and workforce development during the launch of the second year of the Bank On INT paid internship program on June 5, 2026.
Moncayo spoke during a memorandum of understanding signing ceremony held at Edinburg City Council Chambers, where representatives from the City of Edinburg, the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation (EEDC), the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), and regional banks gathered to formally launch the program’s second cohort.

Addressing attendees, Moncayo described the initiative as an example of organizations working together to create opportunities for students entering the workforce.
“What a great example teamwork makes the dream work,” Moncayo said. “This group of everybody that’s in here is making the dream work for these students.”
Edinburg Mayor Omar Ochoa also emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for students through partnerships with local employers. “This is a wonderful opportunity for all of our young students to be able to get a real-world education at a competitive salary so that they can see what it’s like to do business here in the Rio Grande Valley,” Ochoa said.
Moncayo said Vantage Bank was proud to participate in the program and pointed to the success of a previous intern who joined the institution after completing the internship.
She said interns contribute valuable knowledge and perspectives to the organizations they participate in.
“They bring so much knowledge to the table,” Moncayo said. “They’re teaching us, they’re educating us, and they’re helping our bank grow in so many ways and capacities that we never imagined.”
Moncayo also noted the competitiveness of internship opportunities, stating that Vantage Bank received more than 400 applications for its summer internship program and selected 20 participants.
“To all the students, congratulations on your hard work, on your presentation skills, on your interviews,” Moncayo said. “Congratulations on doing everything that you did to prepare for this program.”
She encouraged students to fully engage in the internship experience and consider careers in the banking industry.
“Banking is truly a very rewarding career,” Moncayo said.
Moncayo concluded by thanking participating organizations and professionals for investing time and resources in developing the next generation of business leaders.
The Bank On INT program was created through a partnership among the City of Edinburg, EEDC, UTRGV, and regional banking institutions to provide undergraduate students with paid, hands-on experience in the financial sector while helping employers develop and retain local talent in the Rio Grande Valley.
