U.S. Army Veteran and Laredo College graduate Henry De Silva was recognized by our institution and the Alumni and Friends Association for achieving one more academic goal in his career. De Silva graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Business Management in December 2019 with an outstanding grade point average. LC wanted to recognize him for his dedication and constant efforts.

De Silva obtained his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice in 1987, but life challenges helped him decide to return to college. With 73 years of age and more than 35 years in the military, the retired sergeant began attending Laredo College to gain new skills in business management. He believed the high-quality education and exceptional academic rankings our institution possesses were going to take him a step further to continue succeeding in life.

“All the instructors here were great. They went out of their way, and I’m glad they did,” De Silva stated. He also expressed his joy in contributing during the lecture to assist his classmates while attending LC.

He has endured through a spinal cord operation, heart surgery and his wife’s illness, but demonstrated to his peers that time, age and challenges are no excuse to continue being a lifelong learner. He is a true inspiration to others, and the Alumni and Friends Association granted him a unique and memorable gift to frame his diploma.
