PHARR, Texas – The Pharr City Commission officially recognized the 36th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) during its recent meeting, reaffirming the city’s steadfast commitment to creating a fully accessible and inclusive community for all residents.
To mark the historic milestone, the Commission presented an official state proclamation issued by the Office of Governor Greg Abbott. The proclamation was delivered to the city by the Disability Chamber of Commerce RGV and its Executive Director, Evelyn Cano, who also serves as a member of the Texas Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities.
Pharr’s dedication to these principles extends well beyond ceremonial recognition. Earlier this month, the City of Pharr partnered with the Texas Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities and the Disability Chamber of Commerce RGV to host a comprehensive accessibility and inclusion training session for city staff.
The training focused on equipping municipal employees with the tools to better serve residents of all abilities. It also served as a showcase for the city’s innovative SAFER Home Program, alongside a variety of ongoing infrastructure and community initiatives designed to build a more accessible environment.
Through these targeted training sessions and progressive housing programs, the City of Pharr continues to lead by example, ensuring that every resident has the resource-backed opportunity to thrive, participate, and contribute to the city’s shared success.
