Migrant Deaths Serve as Grim Reminder of Dangers of Human Smuggling
EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley Sector (RGV) Border Patrol agents have encountered more that 412K migrants this fiscal year, but summer heat has taken its toll on migrants. Most of the more than 100 migrants discovered deceased this fiscal year in the Rio Grande Valley, were on rugged ranchlands in south Texas.

Additional Medical Personnel, Equipment to Assist Hospitals with COVID-19 Response Is On the Way
Governor Greg Abbott today announced that the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) will be deploying an additional 2,500 medical staff to support health care facilities in Texas, including hospitals and nursing homes. This will bring the total number of medical personnel deployed across the state to 8,100. In addition, DSHS is providing medical equipment requested by Texas medical facilities including ventilators, oxygen concentrators, heart monitors, IV pumps, feeding pumps, and hospital beds.Â

Laredo Sector Border Patrol Arrests Convicted Sex Offender
LAREDO, TX – Agents from the Laredo South Border Patrol Station arrested a convicted sex offender and prevented him from entering the U.S. illegally near Rio Bravo, Texas.
The arrest occurred during the very early morning of August 24, when agents apprehended a group of 20 undocumented individuals south of town near Patricia Lane.

HOUSTON – A 47-year-old Mexican citizen has been ordered to federal prison for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Jennifer B. Lowery.

Newly released Census data indicates that the US population is becoming increasingly diverse. The most prevalent racial or ethnic group was the White alone non-Hispanic population at 57.8%, down from 63.7% in 2010. The Hispanic or Latino population was the second largest, comprising 18.7% of the total, while the Black or African American alone population was third at 12.1%.

McAllen, TX – This September 11 marks the 20th anniversary of one of the most tragic days in American history, a day that this country will never forget. An exhibit curated from the permanent collection of the International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) will honor this American tragedy with a series of photographs taken by photographer Mark Roddenberry after the attacks on September 11, 2011.
