McALLEN, Texas – The McAllen Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred on Friday, August 22, 2026, in the 1500 block of Redwood Avenue.
At approximately 10:28 p.m., McAllen Police officers were dispatched to the location in reference to a 911 call reporting that a grandson had pushed the reporting party. The caller also advised that the male was schizophrenic and was not taking his medications.
Responding officers confirmed that the suspect remained at the location and was acting erratically. Officers were advised that the male had locked himself inside the residence, where officers reported hearing screaming and observed that burglary bars were closed.
McAllen Police officers made entry into the residence and secured the suspect. Officers located a female inside the home with apparent injuries. Preliminary investigation indicates the victim died from stab wounds.
The suspect, identified as Esai Longoria, 37, of McAllen, Texas, is currently in police custody and remains hospitalized. Longoria faces charges of Murder, Resisting Arrest/Search/Transportation, Assault on a Peace Officer, and Injury to Elderly. Arraignment in McAllen Municipal Court is pending.
