Vice President JD Vance said he is not running for president and pushed back on speculation about a possible 2028 campaign during remarks on May 19, 2026.
According to ABC 6 On Your Side, Vance addressed rumors about a future presidential bid during a White House press availability and said he is focused on serving as vice president. “I’m not a potential future candidate. I’m a vice president, and I really like my job,” Vance said, according to the outlet.
The comments came as political discussion around the 2028 Republican presidential race has increased, with Vance frequently mentioned as a possible contender because of his national profile and current position.
ABC 33/40 previously reported that Vance had not decided whether to pursue a 2028 presidential campaign. The outlet reported in March and May 2026 that the vice president had not made a formal decision about seeking the office.
As of May 20, 2026, there has been no formal campaign announcement or filing indicating that Vance is running for president. Public records reviewed through federal election channels do not show an announced presidential campaign tied to the vice president.
The Financial Times has also reported that Vance remains widely viewed by political observers as a potential future Republican candidate, though he has not announced any plans to seek the presidency.
