AUSTIN – This week, Governor Greg Abbott selected multiple qualified candidates to serve on behalf of Texans.
Council On Cardiovascular Disease And Stroke – Governor Abbott appointed Christine Cox and Brittany Henson and reappointed Remedios “Remmy” Perez Morris to the Council on Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke for terms set to expire on February 1, 2031. Additionally, the Governor appointed Jennifer Scott and Lauri Speirs to the board for terms set to expire on February 1, 2027. The Council is charged with developing an effective and resource‐efficient plan to reduce the morbidity, mortality, and economic burden of cardiovascular disease and stroke in Texas.
Quantum Initiative Advisory Committee – Governor Abbott appointed Victor Fishman, Ph.D. and Lin Zhou, Ph.D. to the Quantum Initiative Advisory Committee for terms set to expire on January 31, 2027. Governor Abbott also appointed Richard “Ross” Coffman for a term set to expire on January 31, 2029, and appointed John Josephakis and Jeff Prevost, Ph.D. for terms set to expire on January 31, 2031. The Initiative will develop a strategic plan for the promotion of the quantum economy in this state.
Task Force On Modernizing Manufacturing – Governor Abbott appointed Nathan Byman, Ian Weiswurm, Allan Couch, Thomas McNutt, Ryan Gustafson, Glenn Isbell, Jason Shawhan, Malena Gonzalez, Joe Esparza, Lacy Wolf, Nahum Pacheco Salazar, Jamie Moreno, Monica Martinez, and Larry McManus to the Task Force on Modernizing Manufacturing for terms set to expire on September 1, 2027. The Task Force will study the modernization of manufacturing in Texas.
Texas Industrialized Building Code Council – Governor Abbott reappointed Suzanne Arnold, Edwin “Scooter” Lofton, Alex Morales, Jorge Olivares, John “Johnny” Scholl, and W.F. “Dubb” Smith to the Texas Industrialized Building Code Council for terms set to expire on February 1, 2028. Additionally, the Governor appointed Lee Ramsey to the Council for a term set to expire on February 1, 2027. The Council oversees the state program regulating industrialized housing and buildings.
Texas School Safety Center Board – Governor Abbott appointed Jesus “Roberto” Rodriguez, Ph.D. and reappointed Bill Avera, Edwin Flores, Ph.D., and Rania Mankarious to the Texas School Safety Center Board for terms set to expire on February 1, 2028. The Board reports to the Governor, the legislature, the State Board of Education, and the Texas Education Agency regarding school safety and security and advises the Center on its function, budget, and strategic planning initiatives.
