Apple iPhone users are reporting difficulties searching for saved contacts following updates to iOS 27 and iOS 27.0.1, with complaints appearing on technology websites, Apple’s support community, and online discussion forums.
The reports describe contact searches that return no results, take several seconds to respond, or fail when users search across multiple contact accounts.
One iPhone owner reported that the problems began immediately after installing iOS 27.0.1 and continued for more than two weeks.
“I use my iPhone extensively for business communications, and this issue is seriously affecting my day-to-day productivity,” the user wrote in a complaint shared with Texas Border Business.
The user questioned whether the problem could still be attributed to contact indexing, a process associated with software updates.
Other iPhone owners have reported similar experiences.
On September 28, 2026, Adrian Ortiz, commenting on technology website 9to5Mac, reported continued problems after updating an iPhone 17 Pro.
“Still having the issue when searching for contacts,” Ortiz wrote, describing a delay of approximately 10 seconds before search results appeared. 9to5Mac
On the MacRumors discussion forum, Evan Katz, posting under his own name, described a similar problem affecting his iPhone 16 Pro Max after upgrading to iOS 27.
Katz reported that searches failed when using the combined All Contacts view, although the contacts remained stored on the device.
He said searching an individual contact account restored normal results.
Katz also reported contacting Apple Support and providing diagnostic information. His account does not establish that Apple has officially confirmed a software defect. MacRumors Forums
Other MacRumors participants described comparable experiences.
A user identified as 10714103 reported the same problem on an iPhone 16 Pro and said Katz’s suggested workaround was successful.
Another participant, MacNchedder, described an identical problem that appeared less severe on an iPad.
Shaminda, using an iPhone 16 Pro with more than 6,000 contacts, reported experiencing the same difficulty under iOS 27.0.1. Shaminda also said selecting an individual contact list restored search functionality.
A participant using the nickname Henry762 reported delays exceeding five seconds and said searching only a Google contacts account made searches faster.
These accounts suggest that selecting individual contact lists may help some affected users, although the method is not an officially confirmed repair. MacRumors Forums
On Apple’s own support community, a user identified as biswajit29 reported difficulties accessing saved contacts after updating an iPhone 13 to iOS 27.
The September 24 complaint prompted another community participant, Ingo2711, to ask whether the contacts were synchronized through iCloud or another service. Apple Support Communities
The complaints involve different iPhone models and software versions. They do not establish how many devices are affected or whether every report has the same underlying cause.
The reviewed material does not include an official Apple announcement confirming a widespread contact-search defect or specifying when a permanent correction might become available.
For affected users, the immediate concern remains restoring reliable access to saved contact information without deleting records or resetting their devices.
