CAMERON COUNTY – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) in cooperation with the Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority (CCRMA) and the City of San Benito will host a virtual public meeting with an in-person option to discuss and gather input on proposed improvements to FM 1846 (Oscar Williams Road), in Cameron County.
The project would widen approximately 1.62 miles of FM 1846, and the proposed roadway would consist of four 12-foot-wide travel lanes, a 14-foot-wide continuous left turn lane, two 10-foot-wide shoulders, and a 10-foot-wide shared use path for pedestrians and bicyclists. The improvements, with an estimated cost of $10.5 million, would be paid for with state and federal funds.

The roadway expansion would improve mobility, enhance safety, and relieve congestion along FM 1846. The project is listed in the Rio Grande Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Metropolitan Transportation Plan for construction in the fall of 2032.
The public meeting is being held to encourage and maintain effective communication with the public and provide project specific information as it relates to FM 1846.
