PHARR, Texas — The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley is collecting food donations and seeking volunteers through Wednesday evening, July 22, to support families affected by recent heavy rains and flooding in communities served by the South Texas Food Bank.
| Requested donations include: • Easy-open canned proteins, including tuna and chicken • Easy-open, ready-to-eat meals, including soups, chili, stews • Peanut butter • Bottled water and electrolyte drinks • Other nonperishable, easy-to-prepare foods and snacks |
Donations must be new, unopened and unexpired. Glass containers cannot be accepted.
All donations may be dropped off at the Food Bank RGV, 724 N. Cage Blvd. in Pharr. Donors may drive directly to the loading dock, where collection bins will be placed outside for drive-up donations.
Businesses, local organizations and community groups are encouraged to collect and deliver donations before the drive ends Wednesday evening. The Food Bank RGV team will be delivering supplies and collected donations to the South Texas Food Bank on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
“When one of our sister food banks needs a helping hand, we want to be there,” said Libby A. Saenz, Chief Executive Officer of the Food Bank RGV. “The South Texas Food Bank is responding to the needs of families affected by the recent rains and flooding, and we’re asking the Valley to join us by donating food or volunteering.”
Volunteers are needed to sort and bag fresh produce and assemble food bags. Walk-in volunteers are welcome from 8:30am to noon and 1:30pm to 4:00pm.
As fellow members of the Feeding America network, the Food Bank RGV is providing additional support to the South Texas Food Bank as it continues assisting communities affected by the recent rains and flooding.
