WESLACO, TX – The Weslaco Area Chamber of Commerce was the recipient of several marketing awards from the Texas Festivals and Events Association (TFEA) for their promotion of Texas Onion Fest, held at the end of March at Mayor Pablo G. Peña City Park.  Texas Onion Fest celebrates the development of the Texas sweet onion, which was pioneered in Weslaco. Celebrating 30 years, the Texas Onion Fest has become a staple event in the community.

The Texas Festivals and Events Association is an organization that represents hundreds of festivals across the state of Texas.  Every year, festival and event professionals from around the state and beyond gather for a weekend of educational and professional development classes, networking opportunities, a trade show, award ceremonies and more. This year marked the 26th annual conference for TFEA which took place at the McAllen Convention Center for the second year in a row. Marketing awards are presented to events and festivals from across the state in a wide variety of categories; events compete in their own budget category. Texas Onion Fest competed in its budget category of $75,000 to $250,000 and was awarded eight awards for the 2019 festival: 

  • Best Company Image Piece – Gold
  • Best Sponsor Gift – Gold
  • Best Newspaper Insert/Supplement – Gold
  • Best Event Video – Silver
  • Best Radio Promotion – Silver
  • Best TV Promotion – Silver
  • Best Event Program – Bronze
  • Best Single Newspaper Display Ad – Bronze

TFEA represents the hundreds of festivals that celebrate the history, legends, culture, art, folklore and natural beauty of the Lone Star State.
