MISSON, Texas – Teach For America (TFA) Rio Grande Valley is proud to announce the investment of $5,000 from Texas Mutual to support the recruitment, development, and retention of educators and leaders serving students across the region. This funding reduces financial barriers for incoming corps members and strengthens the educator workforce, enabling more leaders to enter classrooms and support student learning immediately.

For more than three and a half decades, Teach For America Rio Grande Valley has partnered with local schools and communities to expand opportunity for students. Today, more than 50 corps members and over 240 alumni are teaching, leading, and driving impact throughout the region, reaching thousands of students and families each year.

“We are incredibly grateful for Texas Mutual’s continued partnership and belief in the potential of our students and communities,” said Ana D. González, Executive Director of Teach For America Rio Grande Valley. “This investment allows us to recruit and develop talented leaders who are deeply committed to the Rio Grande Valley and its future. Together, we are equipping educators with the tools, training, and support they need to help students thrive while cultivating leaders who will create lasting change across our region.”

Teach For America works alongside school districts and community partners to meet urgent educational needs, including addressing teacher shortages and supporting student achievement. Through comprehensive pre-service training, ongoing coaching, and leadership development opportunities, corps members are prepared to make an immediate impact in classrooms while growing into lifelong advocates for educational excellence. Beyond their initial teaching commitment, alumni continue to receive leadership support and professional development as they pursue careers that strengthen schools, communities, and systems across the Valley.

Teach For America corps members commit to teaching for at least two years in schools across the United States. In the Rio Grande Valley, corps members work alongside a network of educators, alumni, school leaders, and community partners dedicated to ensuring all students have access to an excellent education.

“On behalf of Texas Mutual Insurance Company, I was honored to attend the Teach For America Rio Grande Valley Welcome Dinner as a proud sponsor. Hearing corps members share their stories of impact and hope was truly moving. The room was filled with an incredible community of people committed to supporting incoming teachers and their mission,” said Sarah Carney, Senior Community Affairs Program Manager of Texas Mutual. “This organization is changing lives and transforming communities in the Rio Grande Valley, and we are proud to play a part in that mission.”
