Woyzeck is a soldier, a father, a God-fearing man. He also happens to see visions of apocalyptic violence. Woyzeck is slowly losing his mind as he tries to fulfill the needs of Marie and his son of the same name born out of wedlock. At the same time his Captain berates him for lack of morality due to his being part of the proletariat and a Doctor uses him to conduct ludicrous experiments that take a toll on his sanity. All the while shadows and red rivers plague his mind, promising him a tragedy that he cannot escape. A dark parable that illustrates the frightening madness, impossible pressures, and devastating truths of humanity through the eyes of Woyzeck all set against the backdrop of The Great Depression.

The director Luis Moreno seeks (preferred, but not required) age appropriate actors for the roles of Woyzeck (20’s-30’s), Andres (20’s-30’s), Marie (20’s-30’s), Margret (20’s-30’s), Drum Major (25-35), Captain (30’s-40’s), Doctor (30’s-40’s), Sergeant (30’s-40’s), Barker (18-25). All characters except Woyzeck, Andres, and Marie will be double or perhaps triple cast as Players who will move in between and create the scenes. Players will have dialogue and the roles will be physically demanding.  WOYZECK is scheduled for performance at the STC Cooper Center for Communication Arts – Main Stage June 22-25, 2017.
