The South Texas Onion Committee (STOC) is encouraging qualified individuals within the South Texas onion industry to participate in the upcoming nomination process for the 2026–2027 season.

Through its Member Outreach Subcommittee, the STOC is working to increase awareness of opportunities for growers and handlers to serve on the Committee and help represent the South Texas onion industry. The Committee oversees the federal marketing order for Texas onions grown across 35 counties in South Texas, including Victoria, Calhoun, Goliad, Refugio, Bee, Live Oak, San Patricio, Aransas, Jim Wells, Nueces, Kleberg, Brooks, Kenedy, Duval, McMullen, Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, Willacy, Zapata, Webb, Jim Hogg, DeWitt, Wilson, Atascosa, Karnes, Val Verde, Frio, Kinney, Uvalde, Medina, Maverick, Zavala, Dimmit, and La Salle Counties.

The STOC plays an important role in supporting industry operations, compliance, research, and promotion efforts throughout the region. The Committee consists of 13 members — 8 producers and 5 handlers — with each member serving alongside an alternate. Members serve staggered two-year terms beginning August 1 each year.

The Committee encourages participation from individuals throughout the industry who are interested in contributing to the continued success and representation of South Texas onions. Eligible producer members must be directly involved in onion production or employed by a business engaged in onion production. Eligible handler members must be involved in packing and shipping onions, either personally or through employment with a handling business.

“As part of our outreach efforts, we want to ensure that individuals throughout the onion industry are aware of the opportunity to serve on the Committee,” said the STOC Chairman. “We encourage qualified growers and handlers to participate in the nomination process and help contribute to the future of the South Texas onion industry.”

Additional information regarding nominations, qualifications, and committee participation may be obtained through the South Texas Onion Committee.
