Valley Voter Awareness Month started with the idea that an entire month dedicated to raising awareness about the importance and process of voting would encourage our communities to exercise their most basic civil right, their right to vote.

This idea quickly came into fruition after State Representative Sergio Muñoz, Jr. and Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa sponsored a resolution proposed by AACT that was passed by the Texas Legislature to designate September as Valley Voter Awareness Month in 2015.

Now in its third year, AACT and its partnerships are still working together for the common good to incorporate voter engagement efforts throughout the counties of the Rio Grande Valley.

In commemoration of Valley Voter Awareness Month, AACT will be organizing a field, digital, and media campaign that will help remove the barriers of voting in our communities and counter low voter turnout trends.

The public and private sector, educational and religious institutions, grass root organizations, civic groups, the veterans, any volunteers, and the local media outlets are invited to contribute to the movement of increasing voter awareness and remind everyone to register, get informed, and vote consistently throughout elections.

Individuals companies or groups can help by hosting a voter registration drive, conducting voter educational presentations, launching a pledge-to-vote campaign, or simply posting signage and distributing internal communications. As a service to the community, AACT will provide support to any organization or individual that wishes to promote Valley Voter Awareness Month.
