McALLEN, TX – Operation Interdependence (OI) – RGV is a community based project led by a committee that raises contributions to make and send care packages for our active US troops overseas. We have been accepting donations of general care items and letters of support for our annual send-off to our soldiers.

OI-RGV is inviting our entire community to join us on Thursday, July 10, from 5:00-9:00 pm at the Salvation Army on 1600 N. 23rd St. in McAllen for the “Packing Party” where these care packages will be put together. This will be a fun and family-oriented event that will give everyone an opportunity to give back to our deserving military troops. It’s a great way to teach our children and youth our appreciation for the military’s sacrifice and dedication to our country. We ask if everyone could please bring a box of quart size freezer bags to the event. Refreshments will also be provided.

“We are grateful for the service our troops provide and are honored to come together as a community to show our gratitude,” IBC Bank-McAllen Senior Vice President and OI-RGV Committee Chair Dora Brown said. “We are grateful for the media partners, for supporting and raising awareness of the cause.”

The care packages will include small travel size items such as toiletries (body lotion, hand sanitizer, baby wipes, chapstick, disposable razors, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, foot powder, feminine products) and individually packaged/sealed food items (beef jerky, granola bars, gum, candy, cookies, nuts, seeds, trail mix, oatmeal-flat packs, snack crackers, fruit snacks, drink mixes). Also included in each care package is a letter of support to a soldier overseas.

If you would like to make a monetary donation, you may do so through Thursday, July 9, at any IBC Bank branch to account number #2511726513. Every penny goes directly to buying supplies for our brave soldiers. You can also get more information about Operation Interdependence at www.facebook.com/oirgv or by calling 956-632-3589.
