Rio Grande Levee Update – Statement from Commissioner Everardo “Ever” Villarreal

MISSION â€“ On Tuesday, Hidalgo County Precinct 3 Commissioner Everardo “Ever” Villarreal visited the Rio Grande levee to see the repairs performed on the levee. Here is a status report:  

Levee Status Report

· Repairs to the breach located near South Abram Road are 100% completed.

· Repairs to the breach located near Chimney Park are currently underway. Approximately 1,000 ft. of the 1,700 ft. in need of repairs have been addressed.

· Repairs to the Rio Grande levee are on schedule and should be completed by the deadline of June 1, 2021.

“As inclement weather approaches our area, the safety of all Hidalgo County residents continues to be a top priority for my office.

I am happy to report that reparations to the breach located on South Abram Road are completed and reparations to the breach located near Chimney Park are near completion.  

I will continue to work with local, state, and federal officials to ensure our levee is restored to its original state before the deadline of June 1, 2021. 

Also, we will continue to monitor the Rio Grande levee during this period of inclement weather.”
