RGV FC Toros break winless streak with a 4-0 win over Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2

Edinburg, Texas, July 13 – The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros (7,5,7) defeated Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 3-0 (9,3,5) on Wednesday, July 13th. The Toros found dominance early in the game thanks to RGV’s Jose “Memo” Rodriguez and his brace.

Rio Grande Valley wanted to end their scoreless drought and found many opportunities early in the first half through Rob Lovejoy. In the 12th minute, RGV’s Rob Lovejoy shot an amazing curling shot. Unfortunately, the post denied his shot. Just a minute later, he tested Vancouver’s goalkeeper, Sean Melvin, forcing him to dive for the save. Jose “Memo” Rodriguez found the back of the net when his shot rolled its way into the lower left corner of the goal in the 17th minute.  Robert “TJ” Casner doubled the Toros lead in the 21st minute. Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 were left with 10 men on the field after Brett Levis was shown the red card in the 29th minute. Jose Rodriguez got his brace in the 41st minute after an amazing shot in the top right corner assisted by Charlie Ward.

The RGV Toros’ dominance continued to the second half where they kept possession of the ball throughout the half. Ruben Luna made his debut for the Toros in the 73rd minute and made his presence known in the 85th with a strong shot on goal. Emilio Garcia added a fourth goal for the Toros in the 89th minute. After 90 minutes, the Rio Grande Valley FC Toros broke their 5 game winless streak with an outstanding performance over Vancouver.

The Toros won’t see any action until July 30th when the club hosts Sacramento Republic FC 2 on Saturday, July 30th. Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 will stay in the Lone Star State and play San Antonio FC on Saturday, July 16th.
