McAllen, Texas — Justice Jaime Tijerina, Judge Ernie Aliseda, and Victor Flores have been appointed to the United States Service Academies Nominations Board by U.S. Senator Ted Cruz. 

The Nominations Board oversees the review of hundreds of enrollment applications and make recommendations for admission to the nation’s military academies. “I am looking forward to working with Judge Aliseda, Victor Flores and others in recommending for selection to Senator Cruz those individuals that will be in the best future military leaders,” Justice Jaime Tijerina said.

Justice Tijerina, a Justice of the 13th Court of Appeals, and a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve Judge Advocate General Corps, who served tours of duty in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Previously, Tijerina as State District Judge of the 464th District Court, the 93rd District Court and the 92nd District Court In Hidalgo County. He was also the elected County Attorney of Kenedy County Attorney for 12 years and served as a City Attorney for the City of Mission. Justice Tijerina is fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and a member of The Texas Prosecutor’s Society.

Judge Aliseda is the current Legal Counsel for DHR Health and a Municipal Judge for the City of McAllen.  He is a retired Lieutenant Colonel of the U.S. Army Reserve, where he last served as a Military Judge, and also a retired State District Judge, having served the 139th and 398th State District Courts. He is also a former member of the UT System Board of Regents, a former Commissioner of the Governor’s Texas Military Preparedness Commission, as well as a former Director of the State Bar of Texas and a past President of the Hidalgo County Bar Association. 

Victor Flores served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps and is an Iraq War Veteran. He has practiced municipal law for seven years in Texas, providing legal services to the cities of McAllen, Rio Grande City, Denton and Plano. Currently, he is an assistant city attorney with the City of McAllen and serves on the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors and the Texas Young Lawyers Association Board of Directors (Immediate Past President). Flores is also a former Trustee of the Texas Bar Foundation Board of Trustees, Councilmember on the State Bar of Texas – Government Law Council, Director of the Texas Bar Journal Board of Editors, and Director of the Hidalgo County Bar Association. 

“It’s a humbling privilege to serve on this board alongside other esteemed community leaders, like Justice Jaime Tijerina and Judge Ernie Aliseda. I’m excited to help in identifying future military officers that will serve this country with great honor and distinction,” said Victor Flores.

The U.S. Service Academies — which include the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy — are some of the most selective schools in the country; three of the five are ranked among the 40 top American colleges, according to Forbes.com.
