With only a few days remaining before the April 30, 2026, deadline, Ray Thomas is calling on members of the State Bar of Texas to participate in the election for president-elect, noting that “90% of the lawyers have yet to vote” and stressing that participation is critical.
Thomas said his campaign is driven by “gratitude for this profession” and a commitment to what he described as the need for “courageous leadership.” He urged lawyers to “elevate our professionalism, our collegiality, and our commitment to serve something larger than ourselves,” while calling for unity across the profession.
In his campaign message, Thomas emphasized that the challenges facing the legal field require “action, leadership, and vision” rather than continued discussion. He outlined three core convictions: that a law license is a privilege tied to responsibility; that the legal profession is inherently noble in its role of advocating for others and upholding the rule of law; and that the bar is strongest when unified across regions, experience levels, and practice areas.
Thomas highlighted the importance of inclusivity, citing his appearance in Marfa as an example of reaching lawyers across the state. He said, “Every region in Texas is important,” and that strengthening the profession requires valuing input from attorneys in both large urban centers and remote communities.
He also identified several priorities, including expanding mentorship opportunities, increasing access to trial advocacy and skills development programs, and addressing lawyer burnout. “We must prioritize lawyer wellness,” he said, adding that the profession must move “beyond the rhetoric” to address underlying causes of dissatisfaction.
Thomas framed his candidacy as an effort focused on stewardship rather than personal advancement, stating, “I’m not in this for another title.” He said his goal is to leave the profession stronger and encouraged attorneys to support his campaign before voting closes on April 30 at 5:00 p.m.
