PHARR, Texas – For the 12th consecutive year, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA ISD) has been named a 2026 Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) Award recipient by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation, recognizing the district’s commitment to providing students with access to high-quality music education programs.

The NAMM Foundation is the charitable arm of the National Association of Music Merchants, the global trade association for the music products industry. The foundation works to remove systemic barriers that limit access to music-making and career pathways in the music industry.

The BCMW award recognizes school districts and individual schools nationwide for their leadership in advancing music education and expanding equitable access for all students. The designation highlights districts that demonstrate a strong commitment to ensuring students have opportunities to participate in music through comprehensive and sustainable programs.

PSJA ISD earned this national recognition through a rigorous application and review process that evaluated key indicators including funding, instructional time, participation rates, facilities, and community support. The award reflects the district’s ongoing investment in music education and the success of its award-winning band, choir, mariachi, conjunto, orchestra, and elementary music programs.

The recognition highlights PSJA ISD’s continued commitment to strengthening Fine Arts opportunities through investments in learning and performance spaces, including the ongoing renovation of the PSJA ISD Oso Dome Auditorium in San Juan, which will provide a premier venue for student performances while enhancing cultural and artistic experiences for the community.

“At PSJA ISD, we believe that fine arts play a vital role in a well-rounded education,” said PSJA Superintendent of Schools Dr. Alejandro Elias. “This recognition reinforces the incredible work of our music educators, students, administrators, and families who continue to support music education across our district.”

From elementary through high school, PSJA ISD students have access to a wide range of music opportunities that foster creativity, discipline, teamwork, and leadership. These programs consistently earn regional, state, and national recognition while helping students develop skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
