PHARR – This week, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD launched the PSJA ISD COVID-19 Dashboard in an effort to continue to be transparent and to continually improve the safety of all students, employees, and families.

The dashboard, which can be found on the PSJA ISD main website (www.psjaisd.us), was created to keep the community aware of positive cases, locations closed for disinfecting and percentage of probable cases district wide.

This is the same information reported to the Texas Education Agency weekly, but the LIVE dashboard reflects real-time data.

“Our Information Technology Division created this tool to help monitor the number of COVID-19 cases reported and keep our families and all stakeholders aware of measures taking place within our school district,” said PSJA Superintendent Dr. Jorge L. Arredondo. “At PSJA, the health and safety of our students and staff is our utmost priority and we take specific measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our community. It is important that this information is easily accessible to all our families in an event they plan to visit one of our facilities.”

PSJA Families also have access to a PSJA Hotline created earlier this year to provide a location where staff, students and parents could call to get COVID-19 related questions answered. The hotline number is (956) 354-2015.

“It is important to note that PSJA is going above and beyond what is recommended for us to follow if there is a probable or positive case reported,” said Dr. Arredondo. “If through contact tracing, we know there is a positive case and at least two probable cases pending confirmation or testing, we will close or partially close locations, as well as pause athletic or fine arts practices and events if needed for the safety of our students, staff and families.”

PSJA ISD has commenced a reopening phase allowing extracurricular activities like fall sports and marching bands to start practice and compete following extra health and safety measures. Although all students are still receiving instruction virtually, those with connectivity needs have also been allowed to return to campus with parent consent.

The district will continue to provide parents with the choice of keeping their children at home through virtual instruction the remainder of the year if they wish to. Parents can make their selection at www.psjaisd.us/options.
