PHARR, Texas – The Pharr Housing Authority (PHA) is helping more families stay connected by expanding access to affordable, high-speed fiber-optic internet through a partnership with the City of Pharr and its municipally owned broadband network, PharrConnect.

The latest expansion brings Pharr Connect services to residents at PHA’s Parkview Terrace, Sunset Terrace, and Las Canteras, providing approximately 300 households with access to reliable, affordable fiber-optic internet. The project was made possible through a $700,000 reallocation of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds, allowing the City of Pharr to invest in the fiber-optic infrastructure serving PHA communities. By covering these infrastructure costs, the city is making high-speed internet more accessible and affordable while continuing its commitment to closing the digital divide.

Pharr Connect offers more affordable fiber-optic services with residential plans ranging from $25 to $50 per month, helping families reduce monthly expenses without sacrificing speed or reliability. In addition, through a partnership with PSJA ISD, students can receive one-gigabyte of service for free, ensuring they have the technology needed to complete homework, access online learning resources, and stay connected both in and out of the classroom.

This partnership is an investment in our families and their future. Affordable, reliable internet opens doors to educational opportunities, workforce resources, healthcare, and everyday resources that improve quality of life for our residents. We are grateful to partner with the City of Pharr to create stronger, more connected communities.

By extending its city-owned fiber-optic network into PHA communities, the City of Pharr is helping reduce monthly household expenses while providing residents with the tools they need to learn, work, and thrive.

As Pharr Connect continues to expand, more families are gaining access to a dependable, city-owned broadband network that supports academic success, workforce development, economic mobility, and long-term community growth.

Through partnerships like Pharr Connect, PHA continues investing in programs and services that provide residents with opportunities that promote self-sufficiency, socioeconomic mobility, and quality of life.

PHA extends its appreciation to City of Pharr Mayor, Dr. Ambrosio Hernandez, and the Pharr City Commission, administration, and employees, on this monumental partnership.
