MISSION, Texas – In 2021, the City of Mission was designated as a BETTER CITIES FOR PETS community, recognizing its commitment to being a pet-friendly city and offering exceptional amenities to pets and pet owners. This prestigious recognition has paved the way for the City of Mission to secure a $20,000 grant for the “Pet Deposit Assistance Program” to support income-qualifying pet owners with pet deposits, essential vaccines, and wellness services.

Mission takes immense pride in being the only city in the Rio Grande Valley to receive this national competitive grant, distinguishing it as a leader in promoting a pet-friendly environment and responsible pet ownership.

This program is a testament to the City of Mission’s commitment to promoting the well-being of its residents and their furry companions. Under the Pet Deposit Assistance Program, qualifying residents can receive up to $350 to assist with pet deposit fees.

“In our city, we love pets. We believe that pets bring joy and companionship to our lives, and it is essential to support pet owners in providing a safe and loving environment for their beloved companions,” said Mayor Norie Gonzalez Garza. “We are elated to help qualifying pet owners so they don’t have to worry about the financial implications of pet deposits.”

The City of Mission invites all community members to visit the Rio Grande Valley Humane Society at Mission and consider adopting a pet. The grant’s ultimate goal is to support individuals in covering their pet deposit fees, enabling more families to experience the joy of pet ownership while fostering a compassionate and pet-friendly community.
