Edinburg, Texas – As part of their response to increased intakes during their coronavirus preparation, Palm Valley Animal Society is asking the RGV community to help prevent potentially fatal “kitnappings.”

“Kitten season” is here, the time of year when outdoor cats are reproducing and the shelter sees an increase in kittens being brought to their facilities. “Kitnapping” is when kittens are prematurely separated from their mother who is their main source of health, and happens when residents find a litter of kittens alone and take them to the shelter thinking they are being helpful. In most cases, however, they may be doing more harm than good, as mother cats often leave litters along while they get food or water.

The best thing to do if you find a litter of kittens outdoors alone is to leave them, checking back occasionally to see if the mother returns.
