Texas Border Business –

As May fast approached, we at Texas Border Business joined with Avalon Spa & Salon to design an exclusive and luxurious way to recognize and honor some very special and deserving Moms for Mother’s Day.

It was a lot of fun providing these special services through Avalon, which is a spa and salon that ranks among the most professional companies of the area; we made these special Moms very happy.

They were honored with an Exclusive Gift Certificate with a value of $158 at no cost to the Moms. It included the following services: Ladies Shampoo, Haircut and Blow-dry, Avalon Color, Avalon Manicure, and Avalon Pedicure, for a day of much deserved pampering.

Some of the Moms accepted the whole package others opted by selecting only their particular preference.

TBB is proud to present these Moms to you and to share a little bit about them as they answered the question: What does it means to you to be a Mom?

Rosa Maria Esparza, a certified teacher/educator at La Joya ISD says, “It is a special thing and a gift from God to give birth to your children. A Mother has unconditional love, must be caring, generous, loving, and forgiving with limitations. I have three boys: Jose Karlos, Jaime Javier, and Jerry. I spend most of my time with my eight grandchildren.”
Blanca Cardenas 1

Blanca Cardenas, the Vice President of Membership Services at the McAllen Chamber of Commerce says, “There are so many characteristics that can describe what a mother means to me. The number one would be the unconditional love you give to your kids. When you nurture and instill love, respect and obedience in your children, they in turn develop the same values. It all starts with a mother’s love and compassion.”

San Juanita Maldonado

San Juanita Maldonado, BA, who is an Executive Director for the Advocacy Resource Center for Housing in Edinburg says, “Being a mother means being unconditionally in love with my children. I make myself available to them and I am supportive, encouraging, and resourceful. Loving them when they are good is easy, but you must love them even more when they are not doing too good and be firm but compassionate. Never waste a moment to love and hug them while you still can. I’ve also learned that praying for them is a gift of love that God honors, so pray incessantly for each of them.”

Lisa Aleman

Lisa Aleman, a stay-at-home mom and active school volunteer says, “To me, being a mother means loving my children unconditionally, being their fearless advocate and their safest haven. When my daughters were infants I used to look at them and marvel at the world of possibilities ahead of them. I hope they continue to forge through life with a confident self-esteem and an open-mind to all those possibilities.”

Lisa Perkins

Lisa Perkins, who works at Edwards Abstract and Title Co. in Edinburg and sells Avon part-time says, “A mother is loving, kind, generous, compassionate, and unselfish. Being a mother is a special gift from God. We love our children unconditionally, no matter the cost or sacrifice. We sacrifice many of our wants and needs for the wants and needs of our children, so they may have a better life. We teach them the goodness of God, no matter the obstacles we may face. We try to be the best role model possible. Being a mother is perhaps the hardest, most rewarding job a woman will ever experience. I thank God every day, all day, for blessing me with my beautiful daughter and for making me a mother. I will cherish every moment we have together, for the rest of our lives.” Her daughter, who is disabled, inspires her to say, “Love your child for who they are, so they can grow to be the best they can be.”

Lorrie Marchant

Lorrie Marchant, who teaches at Immanuel Lutheran School in Mercedes says, “Being a mother is a beautiful, wild ride. Being a mother you have to wear many hats. You are the cook, driver, teacher, personal shopper, and the list goes on and on.  Loving them is the best thing you can do for them.  As a mother you live, breathe, and sacrifice for your children. Seeing them fall is the worst, but seeing them succeed is the greatest thing in the world. Being a mom to me is the toughest, and the best job in the world.”

Maritza Rodriguez

Maritza Rodriguez, the Executive Director for Valley Alliance of Mentors for Opportunities and Scholarships VAMOS says, “Being a mother means you are a protector, a disciplinarian, a friend, a role model, and you take on many hats as the ultimate mentor/ teacher for your child/children.  A mother is selfless and loving, and often times sacrifices many of her wants and needs for the wants and needs of her children. A mother works hard to make sure their child develops the skills and abilities to make a positive impact in the future. Being a mother is perhaps the hardest, most rewarding job a woman will ever experience.”

Mary Cantu

Mary Cantu, an Edinburg teacher says, “For a living I serve God above all things, and I take care of my children. Lastly, I am a 5th grade teacher by profession. I am a blessed single mother of four and like many mothers am faced with daily challenges of raising my kids.  I have to make decisions as both mother and father to my kids that may or may not be acceptable to my children, but it is up to me to prepare them for the challenges that await them in their future.  Having been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013 has served as a lesson to me that we are all on borrowed time.  I must instill in my children a love for each other and a love for God because we never know when we will be called to depart from this borrowed life.  Making decisions based on “tough love” is one of the toughest things I have had to do during this journey as both mother and father, but in the end, I know God will be glorified as my children excel and prosper.”

Anita Sanchez Villarreal

Anita Sanchez Villarreal, a disabled widow who raised two sons, 54 and 53, and four daughters, 52, 50, 47 and 36 says, “What hopes and dreams do you have for your children and their future? I love all my children and I hope and pray they live long healthy lives.” These days she says, “I like to do crafts and play Loteria.”

Rose Ramirez

Rose Ramirez, the Program Director of Silver Ribbon Community Partners in McAllen says, “Being a mother comes with a lot of responsibility.  It truly is one of the hardest jobs you will ever do.  I feel that my children are a wonderful gift from God.  Being a Mother comes with a lot of sleepless nights, headaches, and heartaches but it also brings pride, amazement, and sheer joy.  It still amazes me when I stop to think about the journey I have made with my children by my side what an extraordinary experience it continues to be.”   TBB
