McALLEN, Texas – The City of McAllen continues to demonstrate its commitment to public safety, with ongoing investments, strategic policing, and community partnerships contributing to long term reductions in crime. These milestones were highlighted today at the annual Crime Stoppers Luncheon, where McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez presented the latest crime data and trends to community leaders.
At the end of 2025, McAllen recorded one of its most significant public safety milestones to date. Overall crime volume decreased by 10.4 percent, while the city’s crime rate declined by 11.4 percent. These reductions contributed to McAllen recording its lowest crime level in more than 40 years. Notably, the city’s 2025 reported crime was lower than its 1985 totals, underscoring decades of sustained progress.

This achievement also marks McAllen’s 19th annual crime reduction in the past 23 years, reflecting a consistent and disciplined approach to public safety. Since reaching a peak of 12,591 offenses in 1995, the City of McAllen has reduced crime by 81.4 percent. Today, crime incidence stands at just 18.6 percent of that historic high.
A recent national analysis by MoneyGeek, a U.S.-based personal finance website that publishes data-driven research, placed McAllen at No. 72 among 300 U.S. cities. This positioning places McAllen within the top quartile of cities nationwide, reflecting the city’s continued focus on safety in a growing and dynamic community.
“McAllen’s long term trend tells a clear story of measurable and sustained progress, and our focus has always been on progress, not perception,” said Police Chief Victor Rodriguez. “We have seen sustained reductions in crime over time, and that is the result of proactive policing strategies, strong partnerships, and the trust we’ve built with our community.”
McAllen’s public safety approach combines targeted enforcement, technology, and community engagement, all supported by consistent investment in police services. City leadership continues to prioritize resources that enhance response, prevention, and quality of life.

“Public safety remains a top priority,” said City Manager Isaac J. Tawil. “We continue to invest in our police force, infrastructure, and technology to ensure McAllen remains a safe place to live, work, and do business.”
Mayor Javier Villalobos emphasized the importance of collaboration in maintaining the city’s safety record. “What makes McAllen strong is the partnership between our residents and our public safety teams,” said Mayor Villalobos. “We always build upon progress to ensure our community remains safe and thriving.”
The City of McAllen remains committed to transparency, data driven decision making, and ongoing efforts to enhance safety in our growing region. Chief Rodriguez extendsappreciation to Crime Stoppers for hosting today’s important annual gathering, which provided an opportunity to share progress and reinforce accountability with the community. This work is made possible by the dedicated men and women of the McAllen Police Department, who serve each day with professionalism and commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of residents.
