McALLEN, Texas — The McAllen Citizens League (MCL) will conclude its current season on May 21, 2026, with a timely and insightful presentation by Juan Olaguibel, Assistant City Manager, City of McAllen and Superintendent of McAllen Bridge Systems, titled “Where Borders Meet Business: The Power of McAllen’s Bridges.” The MCL has proudly served its members and the community at large since 1952 hosting luncheon meetings that bring pertinent issues to the forefront.
The luncheon presentation will explore the critical economic and geopolitical role international bridges play in the Rio Grande Valley and the broader U.S.–Mexico relationship. Unique to South Texas, the City of McAllen owns and operates its international bridge system, positioning the city at the center of cross-border commerce, tourism, logistics, and regional cooperation.
As global trade, manufacturing, and nearshoring continue reshaping North American economies, McAllen’s bridge infrastructure serves as a vital gateway connecting consumers, supply chains, and international markets. The discussion will also highlight how bridge operations directly influence economic growth, mobility, and quality of life throughout the region.

Lunch fee is $30 for MCL members and $35 for non-members although lunch is optional. Please honor our “A reservation made is a reservation paid” policy. Credit card payments and check payments are preferred and may be paid at the registration table although prepayment is recommended. Cash payments in the correct amount only are accepted.
