LAREDO, Texas — Registration for the City of Laredo’s sixth annual Runway Run 5K and 1-Mile Walk remains open. The event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, at Laredo International Airport.

The City of Laredo and its Parks & Recreation Department invite the community to participate in the annual event, offering runners and walkers the chance to run along an airport runway.

Organizers describe the Runway Run as a distinctive community event because participants can access an area of Laredo International Airport that is not normally used for recreational activities. The course offers participants a different view of the airport as they compete in the 5K or complete the 1-mile walk.

The 2026 event will again feature an Adaptive Athletic Division, enabling athletes of different abilities to participate in the Runway Run.

Awards and prizes will also be presented at the event. According to organizers, the overall male and female winners will each receive two round-trip airline tickets from Allegiant Air.

Participants who register early can also receive an event shirt. According to information released for the Runway Run, shirts will be available to the first 500 registered participants.

The event offers both competitive and recreational options. Participants can enter the 5K race or choose the shorter 1-mile walk, providing two ways to take part in the airport event.

The Runway Run has reached its sixth year as a Laredo community event centered on the city’s international airport. The City of Laredo and the Parks & Recreation Department are encouraging participants to register while shirts are still available.

Organizers said the event offers participants a “rare opportunity to run or walk along an airport runway,” providing a perspective on Laredo International Airport that few people get to experience.

The city is promoting the event as an opportunity for participants to “run, walk, and take off with us” while engaging in one of Laredo’s distinctive community activities.

Registration remains open to people interested in participating in either distance. The event is scheduled for Oct. 3 at Laredo International Airport, with the 5K, 1-mile walk, Adaptive Athletic Division, and awards and prizes included in this year’s program.

Organizers are encouraging interested runners and walkers to register for the sixth annual event and take part in the opportunity to race or walk on the airport runway.
