PHARR, Texas – The Pharr Economic Development Corporation (Pharr EDC) has earned international recognition after receiving a ranking from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) for its Pharr Global Business Hub Partnership Initiative. The initiative was recognized in the Regional or Cross-Border Partnership category as part of the 2026 IEDC Excellence Awards Program, one of the economic development profession’s highest honors celebrating innovative programs that create lasting economic impact.
The IEDC is the world’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing economic development. Each year, its Excellence Awards recognize the most successful and innovative initiatives from organizations around the globe that demonstrate measurable results, collaboration, and creative approaches to strengthening local and regional economies. The 2026 IEDC Excellence Awards will be presented in New Orleans this October.
The Pharr Global Business Hub Partnership Initiative was recognized for its innovative approach to expanding international business opportunities and strengthening economic relationships between South Texas and Mexico. Through strategic partnerships with The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), international business organizations, and regional stakeholders, the initiative has created a collaborative ecosystem that supports entrepreneurship, workforce development, business attraction, international trade, and cross-border investment.

Since its launch, the Pharr Global Business Hub has served as a catalyst for business growth by bringing together public and private partners to support entrepreneurs, attract investment, strengthen workforce development, and expand international business opportunities. The initiative has become a model for regional collaboration, demonstrating how strategic partnerships can create meaningful economic opportunities while strengthening connections across borders.
