Hidalgo County Board of Judges Names New County Auditor

EDINBURG, Texas – Hidalgo County’s Board of Judges named Letty Chavez the new Hidalgo County Auditor. Ms. Chavez had been serving as First Assistant County Auditor. Her appointment as County Auditor was effective December 1, 2023 following the retirement of Interim County Auditor, Linda Fong.

Ms. Chavez has been working at the Hidalgo County Auditor’s Office for 19 years, after earning an accounting degree from The University of Texas – Pan American. The roles she has taken on in the Auditor’s Office are:

Internal Auditor for 6 years
Compliance Audit Supervisor for 6 years
Director of Audit for 5 years
First Assistant Auditor for 2 years

“I grew a passion for working as an auditor at the Hidalgo County Auditor’s Office so I decided to make Hidalgo County my work home and being an auditor a career,” Ms. Chavez said. “The passion allowed me to work my way up to the top and has challenged me to maximize my potential as an auditor.”

The appointment by the Board of Judges comes with a two-year term. The County Auditor is responsible for the strict enforcement of county finance laws.
