Fisher wins Gulf Coast Collegiate individual championship

BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. – Senior Henry Fisher held on to his first-day lead to win the individual championship at the Gulf Coast Collegiate to lead The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men’s golf team on Tuesday at Diamondhead Country Club.

Fisher turned in a final round one-under-par 71 to finish with a career-low three-round score of 210 for his first collegiate victory.

Senior Euan Gill also posted a final round one-under-par 71 as he finished tied for 11th with a three-round 220. Senior Tae Itthiratchai carded a team-best two-under-par 70 for a three-round score of 221 to finish tied for 17th.

Junior Tennoshin Ogawa finished in 22nd after posting a final-round one-over-par 73 for a three-round score of 226 while senior Alex Summers finished tied for 41st with a three-round score of 234 after turning in a final round 83.

UTRGV posted the best round of the day with a final round of 285. The Vaqueros moved up a couple of spots in the standings to finish in third place with a three-round total of 875.

New Orleans took home the team title with a three-round score of 866 after a final round 290. 

UTRGV will be back in action from March 9-10 at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational, hosted by Houston Baptist University.
