David Calvillo earns Executive L.L.M. in Tax, is elevated to Shareholder

David N. Calvillo

HOUSTON – David N. Calvillo, board-certified civil trial lawyer, certified public accountant, and certified valuation analyst with national law firm Chamberlain Hrdlicka, has recently earned an Executive L.L.M. (Master of Laws) in Tax Law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. Calvillo has also been elected to be an income shareholder in recognition of his contributions to the firm during its annual meeting on February 8 in Houston, TX.

Calvillo brings a multidisciplinary perspective to his clients in Houston, Rio Grande Valley and San Antonio in the practice areas of commercial litigation, construction law, arbitration, mediation and tax controversy, and planning. He has successfully tried and litigated various commercial and civil matters, including breach of contract, business divorces, business torts, professional malpractice, personal injury, wrongful death, construction, environmental, intellectual property and most recently in state and federal tax matters.

As a professional neutral, Calvillo serves as an arbitrator in commercial, construction, employment, international and health law matters with the American Arbitration Association, the American Health Lawyer’s Association, and in court-appointed and party-selected disputes. As a mediator, he has conducted several thousand mediations and has earned the recognition of his peers as a Distinguished Credentialed Mediator. He is one of the few truly bilingual mediators and bilingual arbitrators available throughout the State of Texas. His multidisciplinary expertise has earned him the attention of his colleagues and Texas courts, who have tapped him to serve as a Special Discovery Master and Receiver in scores of complex litigation matters.

In addition to his Master of Laws degree from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC, Calvillo received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from The University of Texas – Pan American and a Doctorate of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Texas School of Law. He has been named to the Texas Super Lawyers list for more than a decade consecutively – since 2007, listed among “Top Lawyers in Houston” by Houstonia Magazine for a number of years, and received the “AV Preeminent” rating from Martindale-Hubbell for almost a decade as well. He is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Board of Trial Advocates, the American Law Institute, the Mexican American Bar Association, and the Hispanic National Bar Association. He has also served as a member of the Council of the ADR Section of the State Bar of Texas, the Hispanic Issues Section, and as an Exam Commissioner for the Civil Trial Section of the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

A native of the Rio Grande Valley, Calvillo is proudly bicultural and bilingual, fluent in English and Spanish. Deeply involved in his community, he has served his parishes throughout the years as a member of the Finance Committee, Pastoral Council, and in various ministries, including the ACTS Retreat ministry. He has likewise served as an officer and President of the Board of Directors for the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of McAllen, youth sports coach, and currently serves as a fully trained Assistant Scoutmaster with his sons’ Boy Scout Troop.
