It has been confirmed; former Mayor Richard Cortez will seek McAllen City Commission District 1 slot left vacant with Scott Crane’s passing.

Mayor Cortez decided not to seek mayoral reelection citing as reason that he wanted to spend more time with his wife Elva and family. Sadly, Mrs. Cortez passed on December 31, 2014.

Mayor Cortez has decided to seek District 1 City Commission seat in order resume his public service because of his love for McAllen.

Mayor Cortez will issue an official announcement at a later date. In the mean time, Elva Cerda, a long time friend of the Cortez’ family said, “There is no better person to serve in that capacity, Mayor Cortez will be welcomed by many of his friends.
