WESLACO, Texas – The City of Weslaco is proposing a property tax rate of $0.6678 per $100 of taxable property value for Fiscal Year 2026–2027, nearly two cents lower than last year’s rate of $0.6867.
The proposed rate represents an approximately 3 percent reduction and is equal to the City’s calculated No-New-Revenue Tax Rate, which is designed to generate approximately the same property tax revenue from properties that were on the tax roll in both years, excluding new properties.
As part of the tax-rate process, the City also received a determination from the Texas Attorney General limiting the maximum rate the City could adopt. The determination was one of several factors considered alongside City revenues, expenditures, available funds, and service needs.
While lowering the tax rate, the City also adopted a budget that continues to fund essential services and invest in employee and community needs. The Fiscal Year 2027 budget includes a 2% cost-of-living adjustment for civilian employees, fulfills commitments to Police and Fire personnel, adds five new positions across Municipal Court, Engineering, Fire, and Police, and provides approximately $2.5 million for capital needs, along with continued investments in water, wastewater, sanitation, and City facilities.
This does not include additional City investments in drainage improvements, the new library, and the airport.
Individual property tax bills may still vary based on a property’s taxable value and the rates adopted by other taxing entities.
