Cameron County is pleased to announce that the Valley Baptist Legacy Foundation has awarded $1 million to Cameron County for the development of the Santa Maria Community Center. The grant funding will support the construction of the Community Center at the recently opened Santa Maria Community Park. The proposed facility will expand opportunities for residents of Santa Maria and surrounding communities to access programs and services focused on health, wellness, education, and community engagement.
The Santa Maria Community Center is planned to offer preventive health services, fitness and nutrition classes, mental health and wellness resources, educational programming, and community events. The facility is also expected to include flexible event and program space, a teaching kitchen, accessible restrooms, an information technology room, storage areas, and a backup generator.
“This $1 million grant represents a significant investment in the future of Santa Maria, the surrounding communities, and Cameron County,” stated Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr. “We are grateful to the Valley Baptist Legacy Foundation for its support of this project and for helping us create a community center where families and residents can come together and access resources that promote health, wellness, and an improved quality of life.”
“I want to personally thank the Valley Baptist Legacy Foundation for partnering with Cameron County in the development of the Santa Maria Community Center,” stated Cameron County Commissioner Precinct 4 Gus Ruiz. “This center will be more than a building. It will be a place where people come together, opportunities are created, and residents can access important health and wellness resources and participate in educational and community programs. Most importantly, it will be a place where our community can continue to grow stronger.”
“We are proud to partner with Cameron County to help support the Santa Maria Community Center. We are excited to see that this community will have programs close to home that promote health and wellness,” said Judy Quisenberry, Executive Director of Valley Baptist Legacy Foundation.
The Santa Maria Community Park, located at 33034 River Drive in La Feria, officially opened in May 2026. The approximately 10.83-acre park includes a covered basketball court, lighted baseball and soccer fields, a sand volleyball court, a Universal Design splash pad and playground, a walking trail, concessions and restroom facilities, picnic areas, native landscaping, solar lighting, and other recreational amenities.
