BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The City of Brownsville’s Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (CVB) and Office of Space Commerce is now accepting applications for Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) funding for the 2027 Fiscal Year. Local organizations seeking financial support to promote tourism in Brownsville are encouraged to apply before the application period closes on July 6.
This annual funding opportunity supports the CVB’s ongoing collaboration with local
organizations to market and promote Brownsville as a visitor destination.

In accordance with Texas State Hotel Occupancy Tax requirements, every dollar awarded through this program mustdirectly enhance and promote tourism, as well as the convention and hotel industry within the City of Brownsville. Recipients must have a project that falls under one of the nine statutorily provided categories for expenditures.
These categories include:
- Funding the establishment, improvement, or maintenance of a convention center or visitor information center.
- Paying the administrative costs for facilitating convention registration.
- Paying for advertising, solicitations, and promotions that attract tourists and convention delegates to the City or its vicinity.
- Expenditures that promote the arts.
- Funding historical restoration or preservation programs.
- Funding certain expenses, including promotional expenses, directly related to a sporting event within counties with a population of under 1 million.
- Funding the enhancement or upgrading of existing sports facilities or sports fields for certain municipalities.
- Funding transportation systems for tourists.
- Funding signage directing tourists to sights and attractions that are visited frequently by hotel guests in the municipality.
To assist interested applicants, the CVB will host a series of Hotel Occupancy Tax Workshops designed to guide participants through the application process. These workshops will cover policies, eligibility criteria, program guidelines, and best practices for submitting a successful application.
The workshops will take place on May 20 and June 10 at the CMD/CVB Complex, located at 1312 E. Adams St indowntown Brownsville. Each workshop day will offer two sessions, one at 9:00 AM and another at 3:00 PM, providing flexibility for attendees to participate.
