BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The City of Brownsville’s Office of the City Secretary has been awarded the Texas Municipal Clerks Association, Inc. (TMCA) Achievement of Excellence Award. The recognition is a distinguished statewide recognition honoring municipal clerk offices that demonstrate excellence in statutory compliance, transparency, records management, elections, innovation, professional development, and effective municipal operations.
Brownsville is one of only 42 municipal clerk offices across Texas to earn this distinction in 2026, highlighting the City’s commitment to excellence in municipal governance and customer service.
The TMCA Achievement of Excellence Award recognizes municipal clerk offices that consistently exceed the high standards required to effectively administer local government. To qualify, offices must demonstrate compliance with at least nine of twelve rigorous performance categories, including records management, government transparency, elections administration, the Public Information Act, the Open Meetings Act, boards and commissions administration, departmental policies and procedures, innovation, operational improvements, professional development, and other essential municipal functions.
This achievement reflects the dedication, professionalism, and collaborative efforts of the entire Office of the City Secretary, including the Legislative Services, Vital Statistics, and Records & Information Management divisions. It also recognizes the continued support of the Mayor and City Commission, City Management, and departments throughout the organization that work together to provide exceptional service to the Brownsville community.

Award recipients were recognized in the June issue of the TMCA newsletter and formally honored during the TMCA Advanced Institute Awards Banquet. The City of Brownsville’s Office of the City Secretary received a framed Achievement of Excellence Award certificate commemorating this statewide recognition and were recognized at the July 7th City Commission Meeting.
