“INNO 2015 is important because it acts as a platform for local entrepreneurs, businesses and community members to discuss new cross-border economic opportunities that are growing in our region,” said STC Dean of Business & Technology Mario Reyna. “Last year, we focused on energy innovation. The topic of transportation innovation continues the discussion of how business plans and strategies could be adjusted in order to take advantage of potential opportunities.”

The conference opens with a welcome by STC President Dr. Shirley A. Reed and IIES President Juan Rosendo Martínez Gómez, Lic. Presentations include “The Economic Outlook for the Region” by STC Economics Instructor Dr. Kevin Peek, “Port Innovation” by Port of Brownsville Director & CEO Eduardo Campirano and “Regional Mobility & Transportation Innovation in the Region” by Hidalgo County Regional Mobility Authority Executive Director Pilar Rodriguez. The presentations and panel discussion on transportation innovation will take place in the Building B Atrium of the STC Technology Campus.

City of McAllen Director of Aviation Elizabeth Suarez is scheduled as this year’s INNO 2015 keynote speaker, addressing in particular the growth of the McAllen International Airport. “It is an exciting time for McAllen International Airport,” said Suarez. “Consider 2014-2015 McAllen International Airport’s bump up to 1st class.  McAllen’s airport saw a near record numbers of passengers, double digit growth, claimed half of all passenger boardings in the region, received $10 million for runway safety upgrades and worked toward completing a $26 million expansion as part of a banner year. We are experiencing tremendous growth and the challenge is to meet growing demands while giving Rio Grande Valley travelers the best flying experience possible.”
