PHARR - Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD has worked hard to ensure the safety of all students and staff. On Monday, Jan. 11, 2021, during the regularly scheduled board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Jorge L. Arredondo along with Board President Jorge Zambrano recommended the approval of a resolution to extend COVID-19 paid leave for all PSJA staff. The resolution was approved unanimously.

Hidalgo County uses the case status definition provided by the Texas Department of State Health Service’s 2020 Epi Case Criteria Guide revised November 2020. 1. Confirmed: A person who has tested positive through a molecular or PCR (oral or nasal swabs) test that looks for the presence of the virus’s genetic material. 2. Probable: A person who meets presumptive laboratory evidence through detection of COVID-19 by antigen test in a respiratory specimen. 3. Suspect: A person who meets supported laboratory evidence through detection of specific antibodies in serum, plasma, whole body, and no prior history of being confirmed or probable case.

SAN ANTONIO – IBC Bank Executive Vice President Gerald “Gerry” Schwebel was presented the Asociación de Empresarios Mexicanos (AEM) San Antonio Legacy Award at a luncheon attended by AEM board members, City of San Antonio officials and other business leaders on Thursday, December 17th. The AEM San Antonio Legacy Award recipient is selected by the AEM board of directors to recognize a local business leader who has demonstrated continuous support of the association, and has made significant contributions to the international business environment.

McAllen has once again been recognized as one of the top cities in America for its low crime rate, but this time, the ranking compares the direct economic costs of crime to individual victims, perpetrators, communities and society at large. MoneyGeek website analyzed crime statistics and research findings based on victim; criminal justice systems; crime career; and intangible costs to estimate the cost of crimes in over 300 cities across the United States, ranking McAllen as #15 overall.

2020 was a time of deep reflection for McAllen businessman and City of McAllen Public Utilities Trustee Tony Aguirre. He considered all of our past and present city employees and elected officials and how, historically, McAllen has stood out for being progressive and never satisfied with the status quo.

On Sunday, January 4th, I was sworn into the 117th Congress. I am honored to continue to represent Texas’ 28th in Washington for the next two years. A great deal of work lies ahead, but I remain steadfast in my commitment to working every day to advance the priorities of my constituents.

AUSTIN - Governor Greg Abbott today swore-in Senator Drew Springer at the Governor's Mansion in Austin. Springer will serve as state senator on behalf of Senate District 30.
