Art Village on Main to celebrate 3rd Annual “A Season of Hope” Arts Festival

Texas Border Business – 

A Season of Hope-Arts Festival invites you to apply to be one of 24 exhibitors at the 2016 event, celebrating the Arts.  The event gives patrons the opportunity to meet and purchase art from exhibiting artists.  Our goal is to provide the public and our selected exhibitors an experience of unparalleled quality.  Proceeds from the Arts Festival help provide scholarships for McAllen Independent School District art students.

Important Dates

  • Wednesday, June 1, 2016 – Application available and Call for Artists
  • Monday, August 1, 2016 – Application, application fee and images due by midnight.  A three-person panel will select the exhibiting artists.
  • Monday, August 22, 2016 – 24 select artists will receive an invitation to exhibit

Notification by email.

Artists who advanced to the final round but were not invited to exhibit are considered alternates and will be notified of their alternate status.

  • Tuesday, September 6, 2016 – Deadline to accept invitation to participate, return a signed exhibitor contract and remit (non-refundable) booth fee.

  • Artists exhibiting in Building A may set up between 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Saturday December 10, 2016

  • Artists set up – 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM at assigned location throughout the grounds
  • Festival – 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Dismantle – No earlier than 5:00 PM

Booth Fee:

OUTDOOR BOOTH –$65, includes 6’ table, table covering, open space

INDOOR BOOTH – $85, includes 6’ table, table covering, 10’ x 10’ space

Sales:  Artists retain all revenue from the sale of their work with no commission on sales due to the Arts Festival.  All artists are responsible by law to pay applicable city, state and federal taxes on work sold.

 

Rules of the Show

  1. All work must be original, hand crafted work by the artist.
  2. Work done by a production studio is not acceptable.
  3. No more than two artists may collaborate on work. Both artists must be included on the application.  Both must sign the application and be present at the Arts Festival.
  4. Artists must be present with their work for the entire day of the Arts Festival.
  5. Artists may only show work in categories and body of work selected by the panel.  All work exhibited must be of the quality, category and body of work that are presented with the application.
  6. Absolutely no reproductions are allowed.

 

Media Categories

A Season of Hope: Arts Festival’s objective is to showcases both works of fine art and fine craft as well as diversity among media.

Ceramics: All original clay and porcelain work other than jewelry is accepted in this category. No machine-made or mass produced work is permitted. If multiple pieces of the same design are displayed each piece must be signed.

Digital Art: This category includes any original work for which the original image, or the manipulation of other source material, was executed by the artist using a computer. Work in this category must be in limited editions, signed and numbered on archival quality materials.

Drawing: Works created using dry media including chalk, charcoal, pastels, pencil, wax crayon, etc. or from the fluid medium of inks and washes applied by pen or brush are to be entered in this category.

Fiber: All work crafted from fibers including basketry, embroidery, weaving, leatherwork, tapestry and papermaking. This can be wearable or non-wearable. No machine tooling, machine-screened patterns or other forms of mass production are permitted. No factory produced wearable items, regardless of additional modification or enhancement by the artist, may be exhibited.

Glass: No forms of mass production are permitted.

Jewelry: All jewelry whether the work is produced from metal, glass, clay, fiber, paper, plastic or other materials must be entered in this category.

Metalwork: Includes all non-sculptural, non-jewelry works crafted from metals.

Mixed Media: This category includes works, both 2D and 3D, that incorporate more than one type of physical material to produce. Includes non-sculptural work as determined by the artist.

Painting: Works created in oils, acrylics, watercolor, etc. are in this category. Reproductions of all kinds are prohibited.

Photography: Photographic prints made from the artist’s original image, which have been processed by that artist, or under his or her direct supervision, are included in this category. Photographers are required to disclose both their creative and printing processes.

Printmaking: Printed works for which the artist’s hand manipulated the plates, stones or screens and which have been properly signed and numbered as a limited edition may be entered in this category.

Sculpture: Three-dimensional original work done in any medium.

Wood: Original works in wood that are hand-tooled, machine-worked, turned or carved are accepted in the wood category.

Applications for panel:  Sorted by the date the application and fee are received.

Multiple Applications:  If an artist has work in different media categories or distinctly separate bodies of work within one category they may apply with multiple applications.
