HIDALGO COUNTY – Construction has started on a $165M project to upgrade US 281 to interstate standards, between Edinburg and San Manuel.
The seven-mile segment of improvements, between FM 490 and FM 1017/SH 186, will include adding two new northbound and two southbound expressway lanes and new frontage roads.
This phase of construction, expected to be completed in 2 ½ to 3 years, is part of a larger initiative to extend I-69C between Hidalgo County and Brooks County.
