San Antonio– In a first-ever partnership of its kind, Visit San Antonio is joining forces with four Rio Grande Valley school districts to bring an educational San Antonio field trip to students, virtually.

From now through March 12, teachers and students from the Brownsville, McAllen, Edinburg and Mission school districts are able to tap into the San Antonio Virtual Field Trip that is TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills)-aligned, and focuses on Math, Science and Social Studies (Texas History, Geography). Teachers in participating districts are able to schedule a one-hour block for their classroom between these dates to take their students on this pre-recorded, virtual field trip. The exclusive video link for the San Antonio Virtual Field Trip was sent by the districts’ Social Studies Coordinators by February 19, just in time for it to be experienced with students in the coming weeks.

The goal of the San Antonio Virtual Field Trip is to enrich the education experience. A welcoming guide will invite students to hop on a River Walk Barge (instead of a field trip bus) as the video program takes them to The Alamo, Mission San Jose, SeaWorld San Antonio, San Antonio Zoo and Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Along the way, tour guides at each location will drill down on various educational lessons in a friendly, fun, fact-filled way against the various backdrops, incorporating authentic historic landmarks, animal friends, and more.

This educational program is recommended for students from the third to seventh grade levels. In addition to the virtual field trip, Visit San Antonio will provide opportunities for teachers, parents, and students to learn more about San Antonio at VisitSanAntonio.com/TexasEducation

Beyond participating in the San Antonio Virtual Field Trip, students will have the opportunity to extend their educational experience by posting a story, poem, or picture to a digital bulletin board. Those posts with the most “likes” wins a prize. There also are facts-driven coloring sheets and a quiz available on the virtual field trip’s dedicated website.

Also on the dedicated virtual field trip website, teachers will find all the educational experiences available within San Antonio as well as an opportunity to win a live in-classroom virtual experience with The Witte Museum. Parents will find educational-based itineraries for elementary and middle school students as well as have an opportunity to win an educational San Antonio trip.
