Texas Border Business
Thomas Jefferson once said, “Educate and inform the whole mass of the people… They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty,” and since 1997 the RGV Hispanic Chamber has aspired many to become pro-active in the community by creating opportunities for our local businesses to flourish and succeed through education and civic engagement.
With much insecurity about the issues affecting our region’s future, such as NAFTA Reform, SB 4, Healthcare Reform, Immigration Reform, Preservation of Natural Parks & Property Rights as it relates to the local construction of a Border Wall, the Hispanic Chamber has brought together our business and professional community with our legislators to exchange information about the problems affecting the Rio Grande Valley and their solutions.
Improving the quality of civic representation and the advancement of economic development through regional integration is a quintessential goal for the RGV Hispanic Chamber. For that reason, this year alone the Chamber has hosted and collaborated with other local organizations like RGV Partnership and UTRGV in hosting events such as the Congressional Luncheon with Congressman Filemon Vela, the Rio Grande International Trade Day in Austin Texas, the Texas State Legislative Report Card Luncheon, the RGV2DC Trip where over 40 Rio Grande Valley community leaders advocated on behalf of local issues at our nation’s capitol and just recently held the Congressional Dinner with Congressman Vicente Gonzalez all with the purpose of connecting local businesses directly with their representatives.
The RGV Hispanic Chamber also hosts workshops such as Starting a Business, Social Media Basics for Small Businesses, Financial Statement Analysis for Small Businesses, etc. These workshops have benefitted the community by improving our local economy and equipping the business owners and professionals alike with the tools they need to succeed.
“Just recently the RGV Hispanic Chamber was recognized as the TEXAS MEDIUM HISPANIC CHAMBER OF COMMERCE for 2017 by TAMACC (Texas Association of Mexican-American Chambers of Commerce) for its work in helping small business owners and their focus on education, women’s affairs and government issues. For this same reason, they want to thank the community for the support the Chamber has received, highlight our efforts, and proudly reassure their supporters that they are more committed than ever to continue improving the quality of life for everyone in the Valley.” noted Alex Martinez, Vice Chair of Government Affairs. “We encourage all business owners and individuals concerned about the future of the Rio Grande Valley, whether it be related to business, health, education, international affairs, etc., to get involved with the RGVHCC and help make a difference”, added Cynthia M. Sakulenzki, RGVHCC Pres/CEO.
