RGV Agents Discover a Human Smuggling Stash House and Seize Over $92K of Marijuana In Three Separate Events

EDINBURG, Texas– Over the weekend, Border Patrol agents apprehended 38 illegal aliens in a Rio Grande City, Texas, stash house and interdicted two marijuana smuggling attempts.

On Friday, the Rio Grande City Police Department contacted the Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station and requested assistance at a residence suspected of being used as a human smuggling stash house. Responding agents identified 38 subjects illegally present in the United States.  The subjects were identified as citizens of Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, and Mexico. Three unaccompanied children were discovered within the group. No caretaker was identified at the time.  All subjects were taken into Border Patrol custody and processed accordingly.

Yesterday afternoon, Rio Grande City agents working near Chapeño, Texas, discovered abandoned narcotics in an area near the Rio Grande and Falcon Lake. The abandoned bundle of marijuana was found with the assistance of a service K-9. The total weight of the marijuana seized was 22 pounds valued at more than $17K.

Last night, Fort Brown Border Patrol agents working near Brownsville, Texas, observed three subjects carrying what appeared to be bundles of narcotics. The subjects were observed crossing the Rio Grande and walking further into the United States.  Agents assigned to the area responded to the last known location and began searching for the individuals.  Agents located the suspected drug smugglers, who upon detection abandoned the bundles and ran back towards the Rio Grande.  The suspects were observed crossing into Mexico.  A search of the area netted three bundles of marijuana weighing over 93 pounds with an estimated value of nearly $75K.  DEA was contacted and took custody of the narcotics.

CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
