PHARR, Texas – Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD) congratulates Aida C. Escobar Elementary and Graciela Garcia Elementary for being named Bright Spots Top Schools, a national recognition honoring campuses that are exceeding expectations in literacy education and helping students build the foundational skills needed for lifelong success.
The Bright Spots Project, a data journalism initiative by The74, a nonprofit education news organization, recognizes schools across the country where third-grade literacy performance is outperforming expectations. The recognition highlights campuses where educators are making a meaningful impact by providing students with strong literacy instruction, engaging learning experiences, and the support needed to succeed academically.
“This recognition reflects the dedication of our teachers, campus leaders, students, and families who work together every day to ensure our youngest learners develop the literacy skills needed for lifelong success,” said PSJA ISD Superintendent Dr. Alejandro Elias. “At PSJA ISD, we know that strong academic foundations begin early. These campuses represent what is possible when we provide students with opportunities, support, and meaningful learning experiences.”
Both elementary campuses have demonstrated a strong commitment to student achievement, innovative instruction, and academic growth. Through dedicated educators and supportive learning environments, both campuses continue to provide students with opportunities to strengthen their literacy skills and reach their full potential.
Aida C. Escobar Elementary focuses on providing students with rigorous learning experiences that foster academic growth, critical thinking, and a love for learning.
“This honor belongs to our students, educators and community who demonstrate every day that students can achieve at high levels when they are supported, challenged, and encouraged,” said Aida C. Escobar Elementary Principal Catarina Espinoza. “Our teachers continue to create meaningful learning experiences that inspire all students to grow as readers, thinkers, and lifelong learners.”
Graciela Garcia Elementary, PSJA ISD’s first International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program school, emphasizes inquiry-based learning, academic excellence, and the development of globally minded students.
“Literacy is the foundation for future academic success, and this recognition reflects the commitment of our entire campus community in helping every child succeed,” said Graciela Garcia Elementary Principal Dr. Jennifer Burden. “We are proud of our students and grateful for the dedication of our teachers and families who continue to support student growth and achievement.”
The Bright Spots recognition adds to PSJA ISD’s continued efforts to strengthen early literacy and academic achievement across its elementary campuses. Through targeted instruction, innovative programs, and dedicated educators, PSJA ISD remains committed to providing Opportunities for All and ensuring students have the skills, resources, and support needed to succeed from early learning milestones to college and career pathways.
