McAllen, Texas – Project MEND is expanding their services to Veterans in need in the Rio Grande Valley and will be holding a Durable Medical Equipment Drive on Friday, Feb. 22 and Saturday, Feb. 23. Donations can be dropped off at The Veterans War Memorial of Texas located at 3129 Galveston Ave, in McAllen from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday. Project MEND serves Texas Veterans and their families at no cost and Texans in need for a nominal processing fee.

Project MEND serves children and aging adults; veterans, their spouses and children; and the homeless. In addition, Project MEND serves individuals living with disability and life-altering illness, regardless of their situation. Through their Medical Equipment Reuse program, gently used medical equipment is repaired, refurbished and sanitized and distributed to Texans in need. Project MEND is currently in need of shower chairs, tub transfer benches, bedside commodes, wheelchairs, rollators, and home medical beds.

For 25 years, Project MEND has provided medical equipment for the community’s most vulnerable people. By refurbishing used medical equipment, Project MEND helps people of all ages living with disability and life-altering illness get the right tools to overcome or better manage their disability. Last year, Project MEND served 1,500 clients, distributed 3,000 pieces of equipment for an average cost savings of $1,200 per person.

Project MEND serves Texans in need, but the program is especially important to those who “fall through the cracks” – those without health insurance, who are underinsured or have limited resources. Please help Project MEND to get the word out to those who need equipment and collect durable medical equipment. Tax receipts will be provided.
