EDINBURG, Texas – Hidalgo County Commissioner Ellie Torres and Precinct 4 will hold their First Annual Healthy Heart Walk, in recognition of American Heart Month on February 2 at Alonso Flores All Star Park in In Edinburg, bringing together seniors from the Hidalgo Community Service Agency program to promote heart health, physical activity, and preventative wellness.
Heart disease remains one of the leading health concerns in the Rio Grande Valley, where rates of obesity and diabetes continue to rise at alarming levels. This event emphasizes the importance of physical activity and heart health awareness, particularly for seniors, while encouraging healthier lifestyle choices through community engagement.
The walk is hosted by the Healthy Living Program, a new initiative created by Commissioner Ellie Torres in Precinct 4. The program aims to build a healthier culture throughout the precinct by supporting innovative, community-led efforts that address chronic health conditions and promote long-term wellness.
Following the walk, participants will gather inside the Endowment Center for a photo opportunity, a heart health educational presentation, and interactive wellness activities.
