The National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) Ranks South Texas College 10th nationwide

MCALLEN, TX (October 26, 2017) — The National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) has ranked South Texas College among the top 10 in the nation when it comes to credentialing students entering the workforce.

South Texas College ranks as the 10th busiest credentialing location in the United States as of Sept. 20, 2017 with 163 credentials issued since Jan. 1. STC also ranks as the 11th busiest credentialing location in the United States over a five year period, with 1,065 credentials issued since Jan. 1, 2012.

“South Texas College is focused on creating a high-skilled, technology based economy putting the Valley at the heart of rapid response manufacturing and our involvement with accrediting bodies like NIMS not only keeps us at the cutting-edge of industry, but gives us a competitive edge in recruiting new companies to our region,” said Mario Reyna, STC Dean of Business, Public Safety, & Technology.

STC last renewed its NIMS Accreditation of their Precision Manufacturing Technology (PMT) Program in 2013. Its next accreditation renewal is approaching in 2018.This will be the school’s third time establishing itself as a NIMS-Accredited institution.

NIMS has been selected by the United States Department of Labor as an industry intermediary to support the expansion of registered apprenticeships within manufacturing across the country.

“We have worked very diligently to maintain and exceed the NIMS standards. We are the only institute in Texas that has the credentials,” said Esmeralda Adame, Associate Professor of Advanced Manufacturing Technology and Program Chair. “South Texas College is intensely committed to meeting National Industry Standards for metalworking skills training.”
