In McAllen, Texas, a remarkable celebration of female empowerment and achievement took place, setting an inspiring tone for Women’s History Month. The City of McAllen’s International Women’s Day Women’s History Month Breakfast Symposium, a sign of progress and unity, gathered the community to honor the monumental achievements of its women. Xochitl Mora, the event’s enthusiastic MC, extended a warm welcome to attendees, emphasizing the significance of the gathering not just as a celebration but as proof of the community’s progress and the limitless potential of its female workforce.

The symposium, rooted in the city’s unexpected yet celebrated parity between female and male directors within its municipal government, aimed to spotlight this achievement and encourage further advancement. It reflected McAllen’s commitment to acknowledging and fostering the talents of its female employees, ensuring they recognized that no ceiling was too high in their professional aspirations.

Among the distinguished guests were two influential figures: Ms. Rose Benavidez, chair of the South Texas College Board of Trustees, and Ms. Val LaMantia, a leading entrepreneur and owner of L&F Distributors. Their presence accentuated the event’s mission to celebrate and draw inspiration from women who have blazed trails in their respective fields, challenging barriers and setting new standards for leadership and success.

After McAllen City Manager Roy Rodriguez’s opening remarks set a heartfelt tone acknowledging the role women play in the fabric of McAllen and society at large, the symposium shifted focus towards the stories and achievements of its celebrated guests, Val LaMantia and Rose Benavidez.
